NLGX Design is a Heritage-Inspired Urban Lifestyle Products Design Company based in Beijing.
We create original-designed apparel including graphic t-shirts, Asian-inspired casuals, and fashion bags made from recycled materials.
We also support the local design community through collaborations and promotions at our flagship store in Beijing’s historical neighborhood of Nanluoguxiang.
Through design and through partnerships with local artists, NLGX represents the lifestyle and spirit of the “new” Beijing.
Our slogan is “Preserve…Create”, which highlights our goal of Preserving the Past while Creating New. NLGX creates original designs inspired by graphics, materials, and colors of traditional Beijing.
NLGX was founded by Ed and Michel – two entrepreneurs who have lived in Beijing in the tumultuous years leading up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Witnessing first-hand the changes of China’s ancient capital city, the three friends and co-founders decided to capture the new spirit of the city and their experiences as overseas Chinese living in Beijing with a fresh, lifestyle brand that is unique to the time and to the place in China’s development.
The two co-founders were born in the USA and Germany, respectively, but share a common ground that has grown into NLGX.

N-L-G-X 是北京时尚胡同区南锣鼓巷的拼音字母首字母缩写。NLGX成立于南锣鼓巷，我们旗舰店的所在地。
Ed, Michel 两位居住在北京的创业者在经历了奥运之前那段喧嚣激动的岁月之后创立了NLGX品牌。亲眼目睹中国这座古老首都的变迁，两个好朋友兼合伙人决定创立一个全新的，代表一种生活方式的品牌，体现特定于这一时期的中国的发展，捕捉这座城市的新风貌，以及他们作为海外华侨居住在北京的体验。

| Ed was born and raised in San Francisco, and has spent the last 7 years living and working in Hong Kong and Beijing. Equipped with a marketing and business development background, he is the lead copywriter and brand manager at NLGX. Ed has lived in the Nanluoguxiang area since 2006 and wishes for the neighborhood to maintain its original charm as an original, preserved hutong from a time long passed by.

Michel, originally born and raised in Germany moved to China in 2003. With his background in Graphic-Design and his experience working for several 4A advertising agencies in Germany and China, Michel is the creative mastermind and lead designer of the NLGX Design products and brand. He loves to see Nanluoguxiang turning into a melting pot of different cultures, forming a new unique subculture nestled in the beautiful historic alleyways of Beijing.
