Just today, we got word from local government officials that the much-delayed Nanluoguxiang Street Festival will indeed take place next weekend, October 24-26 (Friday to Sunday)! Given the last minute cancellations from the last two planned festivals, be sure to keep updated on our blog as we’ll give you the latest on both on the festival and other activities going on around NLGX and Nanluoguxiang. As of right now, we plan on having some special guests in for live music performances on next Saturday and Sunday afternoon so stay tuned!

Another Uncle Blue event will be held at our NLGX store on May 31 at 8pm. Uncle Blue himself will introduce some of his new products and the singer Lucie Cheung and her band will set the right tone for this special occasion. Hope to see you there!

In September 2003, the Beijing Historical and Cultural City Protection Plan, compiled by the Beijing Planning Committee, was approved by the Beijing Municipal Government. This plan is the key constituent to the protection of the historical and cultural districts for the Old City. The plan concerns “historical and cultural protection districts” which are defined as “a specific block, buildings, villages, or towns which have traditional appearances or ethnic character.”

With respect to the victims of the Sichuan earthquake, NLGX & Uncle Blue are holding a little charity event at our shop. The event started this weekend and will carry on until June 1. Some of the Uncle Blue design products are on special sale with all the profits going to charity organizations in China. Thanks a lot for buying his products and donating money!

The Mosuo are one of China’s less known but very unique minority cultures. They are best known for the fact that they are one of the few remaining matriarchal cultures left in the world and have no system of marriage within their culture. Within the Mosuo culture, women are the head of the family and own all property and men and women alike are free to choose and change partners as they please.

Hello all! We’ve gotten word from local neighborhood organizers of the first Nanluoguxiang Street Festival for 2008! This weekend will celebrate the Nanluoguxiang neighborhood with street vendors, live music, and potentially another hutong cat walk fashion show from our friends at Plastered. Make sure you save the dates for April 12 and 13!

The Nanluoguxiang Street Festival has been postponed as of April 1st. We are awaiting word from the local government as to when the festival will take place. We will keep you posted, so stay tuned!
